Frequently Asked Questions

How does the "Whisper" lock onto the Bowstring without the screws and why doesn’t it need to be served in?

Since the Whisper is made of a soft vibration damping material it grips the string and doesn’t move. Have you ever tried to move your string silencers up and down on your bowstring? They don’t move very easily do they? This is how the Whisper holds or locks on to the bowstring. The bowstring is in contact with the soft vibration damping material providing the same effect as a rubber tire on the road.

How does it affect arrow speed?

Very good question!!! The Whisper Lite is one of the fastest no serving hunting peeps on the market today. Since it is made from vibration damping material it damps vibration increasing the efficiency of the bow. Testing has shown arrow speed is minimally reduced (1-3 fps) with the “Whisper”. So on top of being Quieter, it’s FAST, it doesn’t move and it doesn’t need to be served or tied in. Why shoot anything else?

Does the "Whisper" or the Loc-A-Peep Hunter stop peep rotation?

The peep sight has nothing to do with peep rotation. It’s purely an issue with your bowstring. In the past factory bowstrings have been made without being pre-stretched, pre-stressed or pre-twisted. In other words they aren’t served and made under tension. Premium stings are now available from companies such as Winner’s choice, First String, America’s Best Bowstrings etc… using a quality string the only way to ensure that your Peep sight doesn’t rotate. All of the Loc-a-peep and Whisper peep sights come in both tubed and non-tubed versions. The tubed version will guarantee that your peep will come back to its correct shooting position every time. If you do not choose to shoot with the tubing, we suggest you use a quality bowstring on your bow.

How much does it weigh?

Whisper = 30 grains
Whisper Lite = 27 grains
Loc-A-Peep Hunter = 30 grains
Loc-A-Peep Hunter Lite = 27 grains

Why the oval aperture on the Loc-A-Peep Hunter and "Whisper"?

At full draw the oval aperture will appear to be round which is very critical for proper sight alignment. Your brain likes a symmetrical sight picture. A round peep aperture goes around your pin guard allowing you to keep your focus on the target. Once that you have acquired this sight picture your entire focus can and will be on the target. Anything other than a round symmetrical picture must be consciously lined up which never allows you to aim or focus 100% on the target.

Why is the Loc-A-Peep Hunter red?

The Loc-A-Peep is red for quicker sight acquisition in low light conditions. We make the Loc-A-Peep in black also for a more traditional color. The black color also provides more contrast when looking through the aperture. Color selection is a personal preference of the archer.

I shoot a rubber tubed style peep, will the "Whisper Lite" or Loc-a-peep Hunter Lite increase arrow speed?

Any time that you replace a rubber tubed style peep sight with one that does not use a tube you will increase arrow speed anywhere from 3-6 fps. So regardless of what brand peep you install, non-tubed will always be faster than tubed.

Can I shoot with both eyes open with the Loc-A-Peep Hunter and "Whisper"?

Absolutely! You can do this with any peep sight. Most archers close one eye for many reasons such as being cross dominate (they are right handed but left eye dominate). Closing an eye helps them obtain the correct sight picture through a peep. Shooters that are not cross dominate should be able to shoot with both eyes open. Other factors also come into play such as astigmatism, far sightedness, near sightedness etc… may also lead a shooter to close one eye.
